What is the scent I am noticing?Updated 2 years ago

Essentia proudly manufactures our Beyond Latex organic foam in our GOLS and GOTS certified organic factory. Our patented organic latex foams don't use any petrochemicals, toxic flame retardants, or chemical adhesives. If you just opened your mattress and you are noticing a scent, you can relax knowing that it is not traditional mattress off-gassing. 

Natural and organic products do have a smell associated with them, and only a small percentage of customers actually pick up on the scent. In fact some of the customers that do have described it as a slightly sweet smell. If you are a bit more sensitive to smells, there can be times that the scent of the organic latex may be a bit more noticeable, think about baking a loaf of bread it smells amazing as soon as it comes out of the oven but as it sits out over time that smell disappear. 

Think of our mattresses as baking bread, if for some reason the mattress was packaged too quickly after baking, the freshly made smell then remains in the vacuum-sealed packaging. This means that when it arrives to you, the smell can be more pronounced especially as the organic cotton cover does absorb that smell.  This does naturally dissipate over time.

If you would like to speed up the process, we do recommend you wash the organic cotton cover in cold water, mild detergent, and air dry. This will also allow the mattress to air out a bit more as it will be fully uncovered. Rest assured, while it is strongest immediately upon opening the mattress it does dissipate over time.
